You've read that you need to be certified, but is that actually true?

Make an informed decision. Here is what you need to know about starting a home staging business.

Home staging is a great business to start because it pays well, the overhead is low, and there are no entry requirements. Oh, you thought you needed to be a "certified" home stager? There simply is no industry-wide requirement or standard of any kind for home stagers.

Home staging seminars and classes are nice if you feel you really need the classroom setting. Some people don't learn well on their own by reading material and trying things. If this is you, then home staging seminars, workshops, or classes are your best bet.

If, on the other hand, you feel you can learn home staging by reading on you own and practicing staging houses (yours, your friends') then there is no reason why you need to take special staging classes.

There are home staging business programs that will give you the staging information as well as the business side of the equation. For example: how do you get clients as a new home stager? What do you do when you show up at the house you're staging? What tools do you need? What about home staging forms and checklists?

Find a staging training program that will answer the questions that are most important to you.

Choose staging memberships carefully to avoid spending money on things that aren't essential because when you're starting your home staging business you may be on a tight budget. Membership dues add up fast.
The time to start is now--home staging is more needed than ever. Go for it!
